Susan O’Donovan’s 70th birthday on Good Friday was supposed to be a joyous family affair. Her daughter, Susanne Lewzey, was playing host, putting on a hot and cold buffet from Costco, with the drinks flowing and Barry White, one of her mum’s favourites, playing on the Bluetooth speaker. ‌

Martin O'Donovan, Susan's son, was arm in arm with his niece, dancing in the kitchen and telling her how much he loved her. He was making a rare visit home for his mum’s special day, and was meeting his sister’s boyfriend of 19 months, Stephen Bates, for the first time. ‌
