COLUMBUS — Democrats on the Ohio Redistricting Commission did a “disservice” to northwest Ohio and the nation by voting with Republicans to approve a congressional map that makes the 9th Congressional District lean further right, Lucas County Democratic Party Chairman Schuyler Beckwith says.
“We were kind of abandoned again by folks in Columbus. It’s pretty frustrating to see,” Ms. Beckwith said. “I think it was a mistake to give Republicans this cover of bipartisanship.”
Under the new map, Republicans would have a built-in advantage of 9 percentage points in the 9th Congressional District, which is currently represented by U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D., Toledo).
