A 68-year-old British man was fatally shot during a robbery in southern Ghana, according to local police. The tragic incident occurred on Friday at a drinking establishment near the Community Nine cemetery in Tema, approximately 15 miles east of Accra, the capital.
The victim was with a group of friends when the attack took place. Reports indicate that six young men arrived on motorbikes. One of the assailants snatched the victim's mobile phone from the table. When the victim attempted to reclaim his phone, he was shot by one of the suspects. The gang then fled the scene on their motorbikes.
Emergency services rushed the victim to Tema General Hospital, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The Tema Regional Police Command has initiated a comprehensive operation to apprehend the suspects involved in the crime. A 9mm spent shell was recovered from the scene and is currently being processed for evidence.
Police have stated that witnesses are being interviewed as part of the investigation. Additionally, efforts are underway to notify the British High Commission regarding the death of a British national. The Foreign Office has been contacted for further comments on the situation.
