If you’ve ever dreamed of owning a piece of Missouri history, this might be your chance. A 140-year-old jail in Pierce City, one of the town’s most storied landmarks, has just hit the market.
Built in the 1880s, the historic structure originally served as Pierce City’s first municipal building. Over the decades, it played many roles in the community’s story.
“It was the only building of its type that served as a jail, police department, firehouse, and courthouse,” said Murray Bishoff, president of the Pierce City Museum Board.
Despite the passage of time, much of the original architecture remains intact, including the heavy door and iron bars from its days as a jail. And for those more charmed by its civic past, the original firehouse bell still hangs proudly in place.
