NHS GP Amir Khan has issued a stark warning about one tablet people should "never ever" take to help them sleep.

During his podcast, No Appointment Necessary, alongside co-host and presenter Cherry Healey, he was asked about the effectiveness of sleeping pills and when it's appropriate to resort to medication.

In response to Healey, the doctor highlighted an exception where sleeping pills might be permissible but generally advised against their use, providing several reasons why they should be avoided and suggesting alternative solutions.

He emphasised: "I would say never. Never, ever use sleeping tablets. There will be lots of people watching that's going 'well I've got insomnia, I need sleeping tablets'.
