Jeremy Broumpton was not in a sound state of mind when he repeatedly took his clothes off and committed indecent acts and a sexual assault in the Alvinston area, his lawyer said.

This was due to a cocaine relapse and stress in his life, defence lawyer Joseph Stoesser recently said in a Sarnia courtroom.

“Many people can be stressed out, be going through tough times, but it doesn’t excuse this type of behaviour,” assistant Crown attorney Amir Hage said.

Justice Mark Poland said it’s quite clear Broumpton has mental health issues and his behaviour can’t be attributed just to stress in his life.

“His behaviour is abhorrent, concerning, highly bizarre,” he said while sentencing Broumpton to maximum house arrest and probation.
