UMATILLA COUNTY, Ore. – Umatilla County sheriff’s deputies are warning residents about a surge in phone scams in the area.
Scammers are posing as "Deputy Taylor" and requesting money via gift cards, Green Dot cards or electronic payout kiosks.
These scams often involve claims of missed jury duty, arrest warrants or payments for inmates.
The sheriff’s office said law enforcement will not demand payment for arrest warrants over the phone, and courts will not request fine payments in this manner.
Residents are urged to be cautious and hang up if they receive such calls.
