iPhone users could soon get access to a wider range of satellite-powered features, as Apple is reportedly working on expanding its suite of connectivity tools beyond emergency calling and texting services.
The new iPhone features would leverage satellite connectivity to allow users to use Apple Maps without an internet connection, send photos in messaging, etc, according to the latest edition of the ‘Power On’ newsletter by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
While these features are still under development, they will reportedly be free to use but users may have to pay their telecom carriers extra for more advanced support. As per Gurman’s report, Apple currently has no plans to enable phone calls, video calls, or web browsing via satellite.
