More staff cuts are coming to Waterloo Schools, according to KWWL. Superintendent Jared Smith informed employees in an email on Friday that, in addition to a three year $20 million budget reduction process that began last year, there has been a further $2 million loss in state funding. Smith says Waterloo Schools has experienced a drop of more than 250 students, which led to the loss. He claims three things led to that drop in enrollment: access to private schools through legislative changes, more students seeking out virtual school, and the crackdown on immigration. Smith says the district will make the cuts with care and transparency. The loss in funding is not expected to affect the progress on the new, combined high school.
