A freeze warning has been issued for Staten Island from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday as the coldest air mass of the season moves into the region, according to the National Weather Service .

Residents should protect sensitive vegetation and outdoor plumbing.

The warning comes as a strong cold front passes through Staten Island Monday evening, bringing gusty winds and much colder temperatures. Morning fog and spotty light rain will give way to clearing skies by late afternoon. Temperatures will plummet overnight, with lows expected to drop below freezing across Richmond County.
