NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – Zohran Mamdani has chosen Dean Fuleihan, an alum of former Mayor Bill de Blasio's administration, as his first deputy mayor.

Fuleihan served as de Blasio’s first deputy mayor from 2018 to 2021. Before that, he was the director of the city’s Office of Management and Budget, which helped fund universal pre-K, according to the CUNY Institute for State & Local Governance.

Fuleihan has already been advising Mamdani behind the scenes, according to the New York Times.

The first deputy mayor is a key advisor to the mayor and runs the city when the mayor is out of town. Fuleihan will work on policy, city management, and oversee offices like the Department of Finance.
