ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) - A spokesperson for the United Way of Allen County says the organization is $5,000 away from reaching its Emergency Food Campaign fundraising goal, calling on the community to help bridge the gap.
The campaign, launched on October 30, has raised $40,000 of its $45,000 goal to help support food bank efforts at Associated Churches , Community Harvest , and Miss Virginia’s .
United Way of Allen County spokesperson Ruthie Hall says the group started the campaign in response to the federal shutdown’s impact on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
Reduced and delayed SNAP benefits have resulted in more families and individuals turning to local food pantries for help, Hall says. The campaign will help ensure those food pantries are stocked
