Woman in court over alleged Glasgow ammonia attack on Buchanan Street

A suspect appeared in court today (November 10) accused of an ammonia attack on a woman.

Gwen Dempster, 51, allegedly assaulted Lee McCluskey, 46, in Glasgow city centre's Buchanan Street on November 9 2025.

Court papers state that Dempster, of the city's Govan, acted in an aggressive manner and argued with Miss McCluskey. It is then alleged that Dempster swore and "discharged a quantity of ammonia or a similar corrosive substance from a bottle" at her.

This is said to have been to Miss McCluskey's injury, impairment and to the danger of her life.

Dempster faces a second charge of possession of a quantity of ammonia in a public place in Buchanan Street and elsewhere unknown to the prosecutor.
