KENT, Wash. — The Veterans Day flag placement at Tahoma National Cemetery will not place this year due to the government shutdown.
The Tahoma School District confirmed that the annual 8th grade service-learning project was canceled due to a lapse in funding.
"We know this news is deeply disappointing, and we share that feeling with our students, families, and community, as this event holds significant meaning for all of us," a statement posted by the district read in part.
The project was canceled by the national cemetery administration, the school district said. While all Veterans Affairs cemeteries will be open to the public on Tuesday, the staff at Tahoma National Cemetery who would normally support the ceremony is furloughed due to the shutdown, VA press secretary Pete Kasperowicz
