Canada Post has proposed what it’s calling a “comprehensive transformation plan” to Minister Joël Lightbound that outlines “decisive action” the corporation is prepared to take to deliver services in a financially sustainable manner.

In September, the Minister of Transformation, Public Works and Procurement lifted the moratorium on conversion to community mailboxes and the closure of post offices.

That’s something Canada Post called a “long-standing barrier to reform.”

The plan presented last Friday includes converting all homes still receiving door-to-door delivery to community mailboxes, and what it calls the modernization of its network of post offices.

It also plans to change service standards for letter mail while reducing overhead costs.
