After what seemed to be a long fall season, winter has finally arrived. While drivers were warned about the incoming snow, the Ontario Provincial Police reported that there were over 120 collisions along highway 401 and side roads combined between noon and 4 p.m. Sunday.

“I’d like to say I’m shocked by it, but I can’t say that I am,” said Bill Dickson, the media relations coordinator with the OPP East Region. “It’s the same thing every year where we seem to, as Canadians, tend to forget how to drive in the wintertime in the period between winters.”

According to Dickson, most of the collisions were minor in nature, and involved vehicles sliding off the road due to the slippery conditions. There were no reports of major injuries, only minor ones.
