PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth Patriots had no trouble with Cranston West when they faced the Falcons on Sept. 19 — a 27-0 blowout at home.

Friday night was a different story, unfortunately.

Playing in the Division I football quarterfinals in Cranston, the No. 4-seeded Falcons went out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, which turned out to be the only offense they needed. The Patriots, the No. 5 seed with an 8-2 record, scored a touchdown in the third quarter in the 14-7 loss.

The Falcons were on a hot streak at the time; Friday’s victory made it six in a row. Cranston West advances to play No. 1-ranked La Salle Academy on Friday, Nov. 14.
