Seasoned shoppers know bargain hunting often leads not only to what they need, but sometimes to unexpected perks.

The St. Clair Shores Fire Department recently experienced this first-hand when they discovered that an identical ambulance to the one scheduled for delivery in September 2026 was still available from the manufacturer.

Even better, the city could purchase this second unit for $370,252—the price quoted back in 2023, which includes a $20,000 discount.

At their Oct. 20 meeting, council members unanimously approved the purchase of the new truck provided by MacQueen Ambulance, which operates a service center in Grand Ledge, just west of Lansing.

“That sounds pretty fortuitous,” Councilmember Candice Rusie said, “given the circumstances.”
