The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for all of Hampton Roads in anticipation for the coldest weather of the season expected Monday night.

Temperatures will dip into the 40s starting at about 5 p.m., reaching as low as freezing by about 6 a.m. Tuesday, but the wind chill will reach into the low 20s around that time before temperatures climb back to the high 40s by Tuesday afternoon, according to the NWS. The hardest freeze will be further away from the coast.

The warning includes southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina, as far west as Mecklenburg County, Virginia, as far north as Essex County, and as far south as Bertie County, North Carolina.
