EUGENE, Ore. - The Willamette Farm and Food Coalition hosted its annual 'Fill Your Pantry' event on Nov. 9 at the Lane Events Center, providing fresh and local food to families in Lane County struggling with food assistance.
This year, the coalition introduced "Pantry Bucks," a contingency plan offering $100 to households qualifying for SNAP during the continuing government shutdown.
"Those folks without those benefits not being able to access this event would be a huge impact on their winter, their year, their households," Dan Rousseau of FOOD for Lane County said.
Rousseau emphasized the importance of the state of Oregon's efforts to release federal dollars into SNAP accounts, ensuring continued access to food for those in need.
