A 28-year-old man from the United Kingdom has been arrested and charged after he crashed into a car, killing the driver, while being pursued by police in West Deptford on Sunday, Nov. 9, authorities said.
At 5:36 p.m., West Deptford police responded to PNS Gas and Food Mart on a report of a vehicle being operated by two intoxicated men, Gloucester County Prosecutor Andrew Johns said.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but it traveled into the opposite lane of travel and crashed into another vehicle, Johns said. The driver of the second vehicle was pronounced dead while his passenger sustained a broken leg, Johns said.
Steve Hall, the driver of the vehicle being pursued sustained injuries while his passenger sustained a dislocated hip. Hall was charged with death by auto and two counts of assault by auto, Johns said.
Because the incident involved a police pursuit, the New Jersey Attorney General's Office said it is conducting an investigation.
