PHOENIX — Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs announced Monday she's allocating more money to local food banks as the fate of federal food benefits remains in limbo.

The Trump administration is continuing to litigate in court whether full SNAP payments should be frozen during the government shutdown. The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to make a ruling on the issue on Tuesday, according to the Associated Press.

Hobbs said she's going to allocate another $1.8 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds to support food banks across Arizona and an emergency voucher program to support SNAP recipients. The governor allocated the same amount in late October, as SNAP recipients were bracing for a freeze in their benefits on Nov. 1.
