KNOXVILLE, Tenn — The interim superintendent tapped to fix operations at Knox County's juvenile detention center has abruptly left, WBIR has learned.

Brian Bivens, hired by the Knox County Mayor's Office, had been on the job less than six months. He submitted his resignation over the weekend.

"There will be no meeting at 0830 tomorrow," he wrote 1 p.m. Sunday in a terse note to county officials including Dwight Van de Vate, chief operating officer. "Effective immediately I resign."

Exactly what prompted him to leave is unclear. WBIR is seeking any departure notice he may have submitted.

When WBIR contacted Bivens at home Monday afternoon, 10News was told he could be available Tuesday.
