The Nevada National Guard has been directed to increase the number of personnel trained in using nonlethal equipment for such tasks as civil unrest operations and crowd control.
Capt. Emerson Marcus, public affairs officer, confirmed Monday that the Guard will more than double the number of members who receive the training by April to meet a request for 400 such soldiers.
A fact sheet on National Guard Reaction Force units across the U.S. says they will be used in operations for “site security, roadblocks and checkpoints, civil disturbance control, critical infrastructure protection and personnel security.”
The Nevada National Guard is also expected to get additional gear including face shields, body shields, body armor and shin guards as well as tasers, pepper spray and batons.
