(NewsNation) — Denver Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton shared he was recently diagnosed with testicular cancer.

In a statement posted to social media platform X, Singleton said the diagnosis came shortly after a random drug test he underwent as part of the NFL's Drug Testing Program that showed he had high levels of the hormone hCG in his system. He later went to a doctor and received the diagnosis.

According to the American Cancer Society, about 1 of every 250 males will develop testicular cancer at some point during their lifetime.

Singleton also said he underwent surgery for the cancer Friday and shared that information with his team Monday morning.
