A 29-year-old Evanston woman was identified as the driver killed when another vehicle lost control on an icy road and crashed into her head-on in another northern suburb, officials said.
Bria Allen was killed in a serious Gurnee crash that also wounded a 29-year-old passenger in her vehicle and the passenger's 5-year-old and 8-month-old children, according to the Lake County Coroner's office.
The crash happened just before 9 p.m. on Grand Avenue over Interstate 94 in Gurnee, where police said a 2024 Chevrolet Suburban is believed to have struck a patch of ice while change lanes on the westbound side of the roadway. The suburban then lost control, crossed over the center median and entered the eastbound lanes of traffic colliding "head-on" with Allen's 2007 Ford Focus.
