The Steelers didn’t take long to fill the roster spot vacated by Monday’s release of safety Juan Thornhill.
Per a report from KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson, the Steelers were awarded safety Sebastian Castro off of waivers from the Buccaneers the same day. The team later confirmed the signing and Thornhill’s release.
Castro, an undrafted free agent out of Iowa, signed with the Steelers following the 2025 NFL Draft. Castro didn’t make Pittsburgh’s initial 53-man roster, but started the year on the practice squad.
However, Castro was poached off the Steelers practice squad by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 30. He was eventually waived by Tampa Bay on Nov. 8, and Pittsburgh is now bringing him back.
