FARGO — Doctors are hoping to get patients back on their feet sooner after hip surgeries.
Sanford orthopedic surgeon Dr. Joseph Bruenjes said anterior hip replacement surgery is non-invasive, which means it reduces muscle damage.
Bruenjes said people 60 or older dealing with hip arthritis or hip pain should have conversations about the surgery. He said it can reduce pain in the days after surgery more than invasive methods.
Bruenjes said there are plenty of benefits.
“Improved gait mechanics, less likely to have to be on the assistive device for an extended period of time. And really it’s to help patients feel more comfortable about undergoing such a large surgery as a joint replacement,” Bruenjes said.
Bruenjes will have more on hip surgery at Sanford’s “Doc Talk” from 4:30-6 p.m. Th
