ST. JOHNS, Mich. (WILX) - Lue Yang, the St. Johns man who has been in ICE custody since July, has returned to Michigan.
Over the weekend, Yang — a Hmong refugee and community leader in Mid-Michigan — was moved from an ICE detention facility in Louisiana back to a facility in Baldwin, Michigan, according to Congressman Tom Barrett.
Barrett told News 10 last week he has been working with the Trump administration to advocate for Yang’s release, calling the case “specific and unique.”
Yang came to the U.S. legally as a refugee during the Vietnam War. He was taken away by ICE agents in July for a home invasion he committed 28 years ago when he was just 17 years old. He served 10 months in jail, but the conviction became a barrier to citizenship.
