JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A proposal to expand a Southside Jacksonville market to include a small meat processing facility will head to the City Council’s Land Use and Zoning Committee next week after the city’s Planning Commission meeting ended in a split vote.
Apna Bazar, a popular international grocery store on Beach Boulevard, is seeking to rezone its property to add a limited meat processing area that would produce halal meat for local customers.
The project has drawn strong reactions from nearby residents who have raised concerns about potential noise, odor, and impacts on property values.
The commission voted 3-3 on the rezoning request, meaning no formal recommendation was made.
