TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - As temperatures plunge and dry air gusts through the region, the National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning on Monday covering every Big Bend county.

The alert means there is a critical fire danger, and people should avoid any outdoor burning — even something as simple as a backyard fire pit could be downright dangerous.

Genevieve Printiss with the Florida Forest Service spoke with Tallahassee homeowners on Monday about the difference a buffer can make in protecting their homes from wildfires.

She recommended watering lawns, clearing any underbrush or leaves from the perimeter of your house, and not parking hot vehicles on dry grass to minimize fire risk on windy nights.
