MADISON (WKOW) — The U.S. Marine Corps turned 250 years old on Monday.
The Continental Congress created a naval infantry on Nov. 10, 1775, which has evolved into what we know today.
To mark the occasion, the Wisconsin Veterans Museum hosted a celebration at the State Capitol.
"While history celebrates legendary moments, the hearts of the corps lies in everyday Marines who embody the resilience, commitment and willingness to sacrifice," said Kurk Anderson, retired colonel from the USMC and commandant of the Wisconsin Marine Corps.
Currently, there are more than 200,000 active duty and reserve Marines serving in the U.S.
