SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - As the government shutdown is in limbo and SNAP benefits are paused, the demand for food in southwest Missouri has severely spiked.
Crosslines Community Outreach says the demand for their services has doubled since the start of November.
"We served over 800 families last week. 800! On an average week, that number is around 400," said President and CEO of Crosslines, Jaimie Trussell.
She says the food pantry is having a hard time keeping up, as supplies are flying off the shelves.
"We do receive donations of food from partners like Ozarks Food Harvest and Convoy of Hope, but we also must purchase many of the items we provide to families in need," Trussell said. "Without a significant increase in donations (cash or product), we are in for a very difficult season of try
