A dog was rescued from the Fredericksburg fire.

A Virginia firefighter became a hero twice over Monday morning — once battling flames, and again reuniting a dog with its relieved owner.

Firefighters rushed to the 2000 block of Princess Anne Street around 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10, after reports of heavy smoke coming from garage bays behind the old Coca-Cola building in Fredericksburg, city officials said.

Crews arrived to find active flames tearing through two connected garage units, the Fredericksburg Fire Department said in a statement. Multiple hose lines were deployed as firefighters cut holes in the roof to ventilate the thick, black smoke pouring from the structure.

All occupants made it out safely, but one dog was initially unaccounted for.

Firefighter/Paramedic Parrotte quickly located the missing pet inside and carried it to safety — uninjured. The two shared a quiet reunion outside after the flames were contained.

At the height of the response, units from Fredericksburg, Stafford County Fire and Rescue, and Spotsylvania County Fire and Rescue worked side by side to knock down the blaze.

In total, five garage bays sustained varying levels of smoke, fire, and water damage. No injuries were reported.

The Fredericksburg Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the origin and cause of the fire. A report is expected in the coming days.
