STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Residents should prepare for a sharp temperature drop overnight as a cold air mass from Canada moves through the region, bringing near-freezing conditions and the possibility of light snow flurries.

Temperatures are expected to plunge from the upper 40s to between 30 and 35 degrees in the Staten Island area, with some locations potentially dipping to the freezing mark of 32 degrees, according to Richard Bann, a National Weather Service meteorologist with the Weather Prediction Center. Manhattan may see slightly warmer conditions, with temperatures in the 33-degree-to-37-degree range.
