The Barrington High School girls volleyball team trailed 0-2 before rallying to tie the Division II state championship match on Saturday night at Rhode Island College. The Eagles nearly capped the thrilling comeback, but fell just short, dropping the fifth set and losing 3-2 to Westerly.
Barrington lost the first set 22-25, and the second by the same score. But the rally started in the third set. The Eagles overpowered and outscored the Bulldogs 25-20 in the third, and then won the fourth set 25-18. Barrington looked poised to knock off undefeated Westerly heading into the fifth set.
“I think that even after losing two sets, we still put in our all because we knew we didn’t want to go home,” said Barrington’s Lilly Floriani. “We wanted to keep playing…”
