The Jasper City Council in their regular monthly meeting on Monday evening approved the purchase of a new tractor to replace a 2008 model John Deere tractor that was destroyed by fire in July. The new tractor will be a Mantis brand and costs $471,270.00, of which $77,200.00 will be paid with insurance money from the tractor that was destroyed, and the remainder will come from Sam Rayburn Municipal Power Agency refund money.
Councilwoman Mamie Horn made a motion to table the item and it was seconded by Councilwoman Angel McCroskey. There was a tie vote with Horn and McCroskey voting to table, while Councilmen Bob Mayhar and LeQuin Hilderbrand voted against. Mayor Clark McClane broke the tie by also voting against.
