QUINCY (WGEM) - As shooting season is beginning, it is important to remain safe when getting on the deer stand.

With Missouri shooting season starting later this week and Illinois beginning on Nov. 21, now is the time for hunters to double check all of their equipment.

Madilyn Mixer, an employee at GameMasters, said to check your ladder and to always make sure you have a good angle.

“So, like when you do get up in the stand, the top doesn’t like come over,” Mixer said. “I’ve seen a lot of horror stories like that. Just making sure that everything is like connected mostly when you get there, like even if you get there at night.”

Most deer stand related accidents can be avoided by the use of proper safety equipment.
