Dear Mr. & Mrs. Leckie:

At this time of great sorrow it is felt that you and the members of your family will wish to know the circumstances surrounding the honour and distinction which have come to your son Sergeant John Campbell Leckie (Pilot), through the award of the Distinguished Flying Medal for great gallantry in the performance of his duty while serving with No. 150 Squadron of the Royal Air Force.

The citation on which this award was made reads as follows:

"One night in April, 1943, Pilot Officer Aitchison and Sergeant Leckie were navigator and pilot of an aircraft detailed to bomb an enemy airfield in Tunisia. Over the target the aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire and the rear gunner was disabled, while
