ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Sunday night’s heavy snowfall took many local plow companies by surprise, leaving some roadways uncleared longer than usual as crews worked to adapt.
“This is a rare event,” said Todd Collins, owner of One Tec Properties, a local snow removal company. “You find yourself scrambling to put snow blades, salt spreaders and get your trucks ready.”
The storm’s timing, marking the first snowfall of the season, meant many crews hadn’t yet transitioned to winter operations.
He and his team started plowing around midnight and continued into Monday evening, after spending much of Sunday outfitting their trucks with the proper gear.
