A woman was discovered unresponsive Monday outside her vehicle in Rancho Bernardo in what police were investigating as a suspicious death.

Officers responded around 2:36 p.m. Monday to a parking lot in the 17300 block of West Bernardo Drive to reports regarding an unresponsive woman on the ground, according to the San Diego Police Department. The parking lot belongs to that of a recreation center.

Police said the victim was lying next to her vehicle and bleeding from the head, prompting the response of paramedics, who later pronounced the woman dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts.

"Based on the unexplained injuries, the death was determined to be suspicious, and the homicide unit was notified," police said.
