A 21-year-old woman is in custody after she drove through the heavy metal rolling gate on Crystal Pier that prevents vehicular traffic from driving out onto the nearly 100-year-old wooden structure, according to San Diego police.
Even though the suspect drove through the gate at 2 a.m. on Saturday, it's still something of a miracle that nobody was hurt, since she would have had to drive through boardwalk traffic and all the bars had just let out, with last call at that time. In fact, the 710 Beach Club is just steps away on Garnet Avenue.
Responding officers took the woman into custody, officials said, who said she exhibited symptoms of being under the influence, which they, not surprisingly, determined had impaired her ability to drive.
