A 12-year-old boy was hospitalized after being struck by an ambulance in Newark on Thursday afternoon, according to information sent by Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda.

Authorities said the incident occurred around 4:12 p.m. on November 6, 2025, near the intersection of South Orange Avenue and South 11th Street.

Responding officers found the juvenile had been hit by an ambulance while attempting to retrieve his cell phone, which he had dropped in the roadway moments after crossing the street.

Officials reported that the ambulance had its emergency lights and sirens activated at the time of the collision.

The boy was transported to University Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.
