A learner driver has finally managed to pass their theory test on their 75th attempt, having forked out more than £1,700 in fees, new data reveals. The figures were gathered by AA Driving School, which stressed that it's 'easy to underestimate' the standard of knowledge required to pass the examination.

Each test attempt costs £23, meaning the candidate who eventually succeeded last year paid out a whopping £1,725. Meanwhile, another learner has tackled the test 128 times without managing to pass, clocking up costs of £2,944.
