STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — When a popular Staten Island gas station closed unexpectedly in September and green construction fences were erected around its perimeter, residents flooded Facebook with comments and questions, expressing hope that their neighborhood pumps were just under renovation and would be back in service soon.
But two months later, the fences have been removed, and according to Department of Buildings records, so have the fuel tanks.
“Propose to perform excavation operation, remove buried motor fuel tanks and related piping …” noted a job filing for the BP gas station at 4275 Amboy Rd. in Eltingville.
