GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - Veterans Day is a time to honor all of those who served in the U.S. military.
One organization is doing that with handmade quilts.
It’s a unique way to say thank you to the men and women who have served our country.
Quilts of Valor honors those who are veterans or still in active duty.
Anyone who has served in the U.S. military can get one. It’s as simple as being nominated.
Quilts of Valor has 1,100 volunteers across the country who make these quilts, including about 300 in our area.
The volunteers pick their own patterns and fabric and give their time and talent to sew intricate quilts.
The materials are paid for with donations to the organization, but sometimes the volunteers pay for them out of their own pocket.
