WATERLOO, Iowa — Local organizations are rallying to tackle food shortages following the cancellation of SNAP benefits.
The Northeast Iowa Food Bank is experiencing a surge in demand. Groups such as the East Side Ministerial Alliance and Black Hawk County NAACP are working together to support Iowans in need. Community members are encouraged to contribute nonperishable foods and paper products.
Donations can be dropped off at Walmarts in Waterloo and Cedar Falls on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Additionally, area churches will accept donations on Sunday, Nov. 16.
Volunteers will be present at U-Haul trailers in store parking lots to collect the items. The collected goods will be delivered to the Northeast Iowa Food Bank on Monday, Nov. 17.
