With the addition of a state championship to an already extraordinary resume, Lori Williams has cemented herself among the coaching greats in Ohio high school girls soccer.
The veteran Anthony Wayne mentor, though, is the last person that she would give credit to when it comes to the Generals’ success.
“It has nothing to do with me,” Williams said after Anthony Wayne’s 3-2 victory over Hudson in Friday’s OHSAA Division II state final in Columbus. “These kids are the reason we do what we do as coaches, and this was a special group.”
Williams checked off arguably the biggest aspect missing in her coaching career when the Generals broke through for their first state title in school history. The win at Historic Crew Stadium capped off an unbeaten 19-0-3 season for a close-knit Anthony Wayne
