A callous Edinburgh drug addict who embezzled more than £20,000 from a vulnerable pensioner to feed his £200 per day drug habit has been jailed .
James Ellis, 46, stole the huge amount of cash from the 85-year-old family friend by making withdrawals from the housebound man’s account after volunteering to do his shopping.
Ellis, of Chesser, Edinburgh, used the elderly victim’s bank card to make 390 unauthorised transactions at ATM machines and receiving cash back transactions at supermarkets over a 21 month period.
Edinburgh Sheriff Court was told the crack cocaine addict was finally caught after he emptied the OAP’s bank account leaving him penniless and unable to pay his bills or even buy food.
