A blast of Arctic air has brought a December-like chill to the entire Eastern third of the US.

Winter-like conditions made their first appearance of the season overnight and into Veterans Day morning.

Some locations farther inland in the Northeast have seen several inches or more of accumulating snowfall as of Tuesday morning, Nov. 11, while snow flurries have been reported farther south.

In New York City as the season’s first snowflakes fell in Central Park, LaGuardia Airport, and JFK Airport, according to the National Weather Service, which noted the white stuff was reported both at surface levels and through high-elevation cameras.

The snowfall coincided with an early blast of Arctic air sweeping through the region, bringing the coldest temperatures of the season so far.

This snowfall is part of a larger surge of Arctic air plunging southward from Canada, triggering early-season snow across the Great Lakes, Appalachians, and parts of the Northeast.
